It all started with a simple question: how big was the NFL?
As football gets closer, fans are wondering if the NFL has a history of scandal and scandalous events that will change how you think about the game. The answer is a resounding yes. There have been a great number of scandals and scandals that changed the way the NFL is viewed. The National Football League has always been a league that has been a little under-the-radar, but seems to have been growing in popularity over the past decade.
As a sports fan it’s often hard to understand the sometimes bizarre and wacky goings-on in the world of professional football, but a keen eye can see a lot of things that many people miss. From the most famous coaches in sports history to the most infamous scandals in NFL history, these are the things you need to know if you want to be a true football fan.
The NFL is awash with rumors all the time. Football has always had its fair share of drama on and off the field, whether it’s a controversy like Deflategate or the infamous Madden curse. While some reports are false and others are exaggerated, a handful have shaken the NFL and altered the way the league works. Fans can’t get enough of the biggest scandals and finest NFL rumors, so we’ve compiled a list of them here.
The Deflategate incident involving the New England Patriots
Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was engaged in one of the most contentious controversies in recent years. Some viewed it as evidence that both the team and Brady are cheats, while others saw it as the league’s inept effort to tarnish one of the greatest football dynasties ever.
The crux of Deflategate was this: Did the Patriots reduce the inflate of certain game balls at Brady’s request? Is it fair to say that it gave New England an unfair advantage? In the end, the controversy raised more questions than it answered. According to an NPR investigation, Deflategate occurred “more likely than not.”
Brady was suspended for four games, and the Patriots were hit with a slew of penalties. Scientists, on the other hand, believe that certain meteorological conditions may cause the balls to deflate. It was too late at that point; the harm had already been done. Brady and his teammates will be eternally connected to the Deflategate scandal. It will most certainly be a footnote in the legendary quarterback’s record-breaking career.
Over the years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been the subject of speculations.
The Patriots aren’t the only ones who have been accused of “deflating” game balls. The New York Giants charged the Pittsburgh Steelers with the same offense in 2016. The NFL, on the other hand, quickly put an end to the story nearly as soon as it broke, and business resumed as usual.
Yahoo Sports wonders why the Patriots and Brady have been dragged through the dirt over identical accusations but the Steelers have escaped with their heads held high. Is it because the original Deflategate investigation dragged on for a long time and produced just a few conclusions? Maybe. The Steelers always seem to end themselves in the center of a controversy for whatever reason.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl in 2006, the media and fans went insane. Not because Pittsburgh won, but because referees committed egregious errors. Many people wondered whether the game was rigged.
The game’s referee crew chief, according to Bleacher Report, poured fuel to the flames. “I messed up two calls in the fourth quarter and affected the game, which is something an official never wants to do,” he added. While the NFL and its officiating supervisor adamantly deny any misconduct, the incident has become part of NFL legend.
The Curse of Madness
For almost two decades, EA Sports has skeptically rejected suggestions that successful NFL players are cursed. The “Madden curse,” as it’s been dubbed, includes a number of NFL superstars suffering injuries shortly after being featured on the video game’s cover or having their contracts suddenly canceled.
The notorious Madden curse may be traced back to the late 1990s. Some of the allegedly afflicted athletes had their NFL careers cut short, while others have unexplained run-ins with police enforcement.
Is it true that the Madden curse has struck?

Many players have had terrible occurrences occur shortly after appearing on the Madden cover. Antonio Brown had a great start to his football career. He was lucky to grace the NFL Madden Cover in 2019 after a great season. However, a tumultuous offseason followed shortly after.
Brown got into a fight with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. As a consequence, his Steelers contract was terminated. Brown later suffered frostbite on his feet, forcing him to leave the field for a while.
NFL players like as John Madden, Daunte Culpepper, and Shaun Alexander are among those said to be afflicted by the curse. According to CBS Sports, all of their football careers ended suddenly.
EA Sports, on the other hand, has rejected the allegations. Injury and other calamities, according to the sports video game business, are a regular part of the NFL. After appearing on the cover of Madden, more famous athletes have escaped the Madden curse.
Despite suffering an arm injury, Patrick Mahomes just overcame the NFL curse. Despite being on the cover, Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and Odell Beckham Jr. did well, proving that the Madden curse may not be true. In any case, there’s another NFL curse that’s much worse.
The curse of the NFL MVP
Many of the players who win the NFL MVP Award lose in the Super Bowl. Many football fans believe that a player cannot win the MVP award and the Super Bowl in the same year, which may be accurate based on history. Players like Kurt Warner and Terrell Davis, on the other hand, broke the curse by winning the MVP and Super Bowl in the same year.
According to CBS Sports, Peyton Manning, Brady, Aaron Rogers, Warner, and Matt Ryan have all been victims of the MVP curse. Manning has two Super Bowl victories despite earning five MVP honors throughout his NFL career. Ironically, Manning’s championship triumphs occurred during the two years in which he did not win the NFL MVP award.
Manning earned his first Super Bowl ring in 2007 while playing for the Indianapolis Colts, according to Sportskeeda. He didn’t get his second Super Bowl ring until 2016, which also happened to be his last active season; he retired the following year.
When Brady earned the MVP award in 2007 and 2010, he also failed to win the Super Bowl in each of those years. Is there an NFL curse at work, or have other clubs performed better? Take a peek at what the Superdome curse has done to sports maniacs if you believe you’ve heard everything.
The Curse of the Superdome
The Superdome curse seems to be more of a superstition. A voodoo priestess, according to the New York Daily News, would conduct rituals before games to ensure a team’s win. The Saints were the catalyst for everything that followed. Before the playoff game against the Rams in 2000, New Orleans brought in a priestess called Ava Kay Jones to perform this.
Jones was spotted chanting and calling on mystical powers while carrying a voodoo doll throughout the match, surrounded by drummers and dancers. The Saints won their first playoff game, whether it was chance or a lucky break.
Jones couldn’t persuade the spirits a second time when they were approached. The Saints suffered a humiliating defeat. Fans were enraged and hurled beer bottles onto the pitch. The ceremonies, according to ESPN, are a means of honoring the ancestors, who would remove any impediments to the team’s victory. To break the curse, the priestesses would sacrifice a snake in honor of Marie Laveau, the voodoo queen, who would then give victory.
The Curse of the Super Bowl
I looked it up today out of curiosity — is there a Super Bowl curse?

The Super Bowl curse has been a term used to characterize three occurrences involving NFL victories since 1992. First, championship competitors have a lower-than-expected performance the following year. Second, clubs do not win the Super Bowl two years in a row. Last but not least, the champion’s home team is usually a disappointment.
Many clubs have suffered from the home-field advantage throughout the years. According to Boyd’s Bets, the overall record of NFL clubs who will host the Super Bowl the following season is 250-214 (53.8 percent) during the past 27 seasons. When each of these clubs hosts the tournament the following year, their combined record falls to 203-261. (43.8 percent ).
Recent instances include the New Orleans Saints ending 7-9 and missing the playoffs, the Indianapolis Colts finishing 2-14, and the Dallas Cowboys finishing 1-7. The Dolphins, Miami, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are among the other clubs afflicted by the supposed Super Bowl curse.
As previous teams that have hosted or won a Super Bowl can attest, history is harsh. So, if you believe in the Super Bowl curse, you’ll know what happened to Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year.
The most interesting Super Bowl halftime show rumors
Nearly two decades later, the notorious Nipplegate incident continues to astound people. The incident, which occurred on February 1, 2004, is perhaps the most scandalous moment in Super Bowl halftime performance history. (Pop singer Justin Timberlake ripped a piece of Janet Jackson’s dress off, exposing her to cameras broadcasting to an audience of more than 140 million people.)
Many individuals think there was more to it than the artists’ media representatives claimed: a “wardrobe malfunction.” It was the evening’s last song, “Rock Your Body,” and it happened as Timberlake delivered the final lyric, “Bet I’ll have you nude before the end of this song.”
Others think the exposure was done on deliberately, although Jackson has never said anything about it. According to CNN, the FCC received 540,000 complaints, including 65,000 from the Parents Television Council. The “Nipplegate” craze continued for months, and the accusations resulted in $3.5 million in settlements.
The Curse of the Chicago Honey Bears
The Chicago Honey Bears’ curse is one of the most intriguing in Super Bowl history, according to Football Babble. It all began in 1985, when then-Chicago Bears President Michael McCaskey decided to disband the team’s cheering group, the Chicago Honey Bears. Since then, the Blackhawks have only gone 5-9 in the playoffs, never making it to the championship game.
The primary reason for McCaskey’s order is a closely guarded secret. The organization’s argument, on the other hand, is that the cheerleaders did not bring value to the squad. From 1977 through 1985, the Honey Bears were a regular on the sidelines.
Last but not least… Rumors of NFL trades for the 2021 season
It’s time to discuss trades as soon as the Super Bowl is over. The only thing diehard fans can do till the following season is speculate about the transactions and players involved. One of the most talked-about trade speculations for the 2021 NFL season involves Deshaun Watson.
The quarterback for the Houston Texans was expected to be the franchise quarterback. But blundering deals and an underwhelming head coach made it difficult for him to pick up the pieces. Watson had had enough of Texas by the time Bill O’Brien departed. Things would quickly deteriorate. 22 women filed complaints against him in early 2021, claiming sexual assault and harassment. Watson’s previously brilliant future is now on a knife’s edge.
