Blizzard Entertainment’s popular MMO, World of Warcraft, is celebrating their 20th Anniversary with a new expansion called WoW Classic. Designed to cater to nostalgic fans in the vein of Pokemon Go and Diablo 3, Classic offers players an updated single-player experience that feels like it never left.
The Season of Mastery has begun in WoW Classic, with Blizzard launching a new class-reset system that will grant players points for completing various tasks throughout the year. The rewards include lore books and cosmetic items like mounts and costumes.,Activision-Blizzard has been in the news recently, after it was revealed that they are planning to release a new game. Are you prepared to ding like you’ve never ding?
WoW Classic certainly hopes so, since the legacy edition of the MMO takes a pause from pushing ahead with the Burning Crusade to provide limited-run Season of Mastery servers. Players who missed (or nearly missed) the initial run of WoW Classic may start afresh with a crowd and level to 60 concurrently with Season of Mastery. Blizzard promised players that after the server had run its course, they would be allowed to switch to other Classic servers, albeit European Burning Crusade gamers will have their opportunity today.
“We’re anticipating six content release stages, much as we did with the original release of WoW Classic,” Blizzard revealed. “However, phase unlocks will come quicker in WoW Classic Season of Mastery.” We’re looking at a 12-month cycle, with stages unlocking every couple of months.”
The premiere of Season of Mastery late yesterday afternoon was overshadowed by disturbing new disclosures in Activision Blizzard’s sexual harassment crisis, which implicated CEO Bobby Kotick in the heinous abuse for which he claims to be holding others responsible. Workers at the company staged a walkout yesterday, asking that he be fired.
Due to a lengthy run of controversies in the MMO and gaming field over the past several years, including the Blitzchung boycott, huge layoffs, labor issues, and executive pay controversy, Activision-Blizzard is regarded a problematic corporation in the MMO and gaming industry. The company was sued by the state of California in the summer of 2021 for fostering a work environment that was riddled with sexual harassment and discrimination, and the company’s disastrous response has added to Blizzard’s ongoing pipeline issues and the widespread perception that its online games are on the decline. Multiple state and federal authorities are investigating the corporation as of autumn 2021.
