The acrimony between the head coach and his players has been building for weeks, but it came to a boil this week.
Tom Pelissero is an NFL Insider and he has just dropped a report about how “Tension Boiling Over” in Jacksonville between Urban Meyer and his players and coaches.
Urban Meyer’s first season as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach isn’t going well. On the field, the club is 2-10, making it one of the poorest in the league. Things are becoming much worse for the beleaguered coach off the field. Now, a shocking story from NFL insider Tom Pelissero paints a bleak picture of the franchise’s internal strife. It also raises serious doubts about Meyer’s ability to make it through the second year.

For those who aren’t following track of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2021 season, here’s where we are.
Things began to go poorly when Trevor Lawrence, a potential franchise-changing quarterback and generational talent, was selected first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Meyer’s problems began during training camp, when coach brought in former Florida tight end Tim Tebow to play tight end. The Tebow Era in Jacksonville faded into obscurity, and Meyer dismissed Tebow early in camp.
The Jaguars lost their first four games of the season when it began. In Week 4, the team suffered a sad Thursday Night Football defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals. That’s when things started to become very awful.
Meyer took the uncommon choice not to travel with the squad back to Florida. Instead, he chose to remain in Ohio, eat at his restaurant, and then have cocktails at a bar he owns. A customer saw him behaving improperly with a lady who was not his wife at the bar.
The video was a significant personal issue in and of itself. Meyer’s choice to remain secretive about the problem with his players, on the other hand, became a severe football issue. On the Jaguars, reports surfaced that “he’s being publicly mocked and insulted by players.”
Meyer and his team’s turbulent waves began to calm as the season continued. In Week 6, the squad stunned the Miami Dolphins 23-20 in London, and in Week 9, the club stunned the Buffalo Bills 9-6 in Buffalo.
The club is buried in another extended losing skid heading into Week 14, and things are getting much worse (?) with an explosive story from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero detailing the turmoil behind the scenes in Northern Florida.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero published a devastating article headlined “Tension boiling over between coach Urban Meyer, Jaguars players, and staff amid 2-10 start” that exposes the goings-on inside the Jacksonville Jaguars’ facility, and it’s not nice.
The article includes a laundry list of grievances lodged by Jaguars players and coaches against the first-year NFL head coach. In the first paragraph, Pelissero establishes the tone by writing:

Meyer’s “frequent public statements transferring responsibility to players and coaches” and “his hard-charging and occasionally condescending manner” are detailed in the story, which continues with stunning revelation after shocking revelation.
The controversial and murky benching of RB James Robinson in Week 13, a squabble between Meyer and the “respected and mild-mannered” Marvin Jones over public and private criticism of the team’s wide receivers, and the head coach sending “a biting message that he’s a winner and his assistant coaches are losers… challenging each coach individually to explain when they’ve ever won and forcing them to defend their résumé” are just a few examples.
Pelissero presents a picture of an incredibly poisonous workplace, which makes it predictable that the squad isn’t winning games.
Meyer has long been owner Shad Khan’s ideal choice, according to the newspaper, and “at this time, there are no signals that Jaguars owner Shad Khan is really contemplating a change.”
Shad Khan must remove Meyer quickly or risk losing the franchise’s most important player.

Despite working for years to hire Urban Meyer, who has a 187-32 record, two BCS Championships (2006, 2008) at Florida, and a College Football Championship (2014) at Ohio State, Shad Khan now has to dismiss him.
There is only one reason for this to happen, and that reason is Trevor Lawrence.
It’s OK if Meyer’s staff doesn’t like him. He has the ability to appoint new coaches. It’s OK if his guys don’t respect him. He has the ability to get rid of them and replace them with fresh ones.
A franchise quarterback is the one thing you can’t get rid of and simply replace.
It is the most crucial position in professional football, and a club without a good quarterback is condemned to languish for years, as the Jacksonville Jaguars have done since Mark Brunell departed almost two decades ago.
Lawrence hasn’t exactly thrived on the field thus far. He’s passed for 2,514 yards, nine touchdowns, and ten interceptions thus far.
Lawrence and Meyer’s friendship seems to be strained off the field. Earlier this year, the former Clemson Tiger reacted angrily to Meyer’s suggestion that the quarterback didn’t know how to perform a quarterback sneak. Last week, the 6-foot-6 quarterback chastised Meyer for benching Robinson.
Khan’s first priority as a business owner right now is to provide a pleasant and stable atmosphere in which Lawrence may flourish. Otherwise, the young quarterback’s career might be jeopardized.
Khan’s best option for completing this vital mission is to fire Meyer right now.
