A blast from the past that is still relevant today with nostalgia in the form of technological advancements
The “mario party superstars all boards” is a nostalgic blast that needs something more. The game has been around for quite some time, but it still has the same charm and fun as when you first played it.
Mario Party Superstars is here to entice lovers of the popular Nintendo series back into the fold. If you haven’t heard, a party game including some of the series’ biggest moments from the Nintendo 64 period will be released shortly. Of course, this means that all eyes will be on Mario to watch how this throwback performs, and ardent fans will be pleased. Those expecting a full-fledged entry in the Mario Party series, however, will be disappointed.
To break it down, Mario Party Superstars will be the franchise’s 12th installment, after Super Mario Party in 2018. Mario Party Superstars is a nostalgic game for Nintendo 64 fans, since it focuses on the series’ early years. This game has a stunning HD overlay on a number of famous boards, including Space Land and Horror Land. Of course, the package includes 100 of the franchise’s finest mini-games from previous decades.
Given the game’s historical setting, it’s no wonder that it’s nostalgic. Mario Party Superstars is straightforward in the same manner that the Mario Party series was meant decades ago. There are no character dice to worry about, and the board-specific rules are clearly set out for novice players who want assistance. Everyone who grew up with the original Mario Party games will appreciate the HD remakes, and players will be able to play as Birdo for the first time since 2012. But if you’re expecting a whole fresh experience from Mario Party Superstars, you’d best reconsider.
Mario Party Superstars is a rather restricted game when it first comes out. There are five boards to play on, each having 100 mini-games hand-picked from the series’ back catalog. Of course, many of these are from the Nintendo 64 period, but there are a couple from more current releases as well. Fans should not anticipate any brand-new games or boards to be added to the rotation. Sure, the levels are lovely in their restored splendour, but they’re all Nintendo 64 levels. Many players haven’t tried the boards yet, but if you’ve been a lifelong fan, don’t expect any shocks.
While some may be underwhelmed by the boards and games, Mario Party Superstars is jam-packed with enough features to lift anybody out of their blues. For starters, players may use their Switch Joy-Cons as regular or linked controllers in this Nintendo game. In terms of accessibility, it’s a game-changer, and I can honestly say that playing Mario Party has never felt better than with a wireless pro controller. This alone is commendable, yet Nintendo went above and beyond with Mario Party Superstars’ internet capabilities.
Although the online function was not available for testing during our review period, Nintendo has enhanced Mario Party Superstars’ online play possibilities. Offline, there are several mini-game modes to choose from, but online, players may take on survival or daily challenges. These online options will provide some diversity for anyone looking to put their skills to the test against others. However, if you prefer local play, same-system and local wifi alternatives are always accessible.
Although Mario Party Superstars does not reinvent the wheel in any way, its additions are really welcome. These little upgrades build up to something remarkable, from online play to controller pairing. This nostalgic recreation will provide delight to both new and old fans, so die-hard gamers just need to keep their expectations in check. Mario Party Superstars is a delightful game, much like the others before it, and its nostalgic charm makes up for its inadequacies.
